Monolithic diamond Raman laser.

A monolithic diamond Raman laser is reported. It utilizes a 13-mm radius of curvature lens etched onto the diamond surface and dielectric mirror coatings to form a stable resonator. The performance is compared to that of a monolithic diamond Raman laser operating in a plane-plane cavity. On pumping with a compact Q-switched laser at 532 nm (16 μJ pulse energy; 1.5 ns pulse duration; 10 kHz repe...

Demonstration of directly modulated silicon Raman laser.

The first Raman laser with intra-cavity electronic switching is demonstrated. Digital control of intra-cavity gain is attained by using a diode gain cavity. In contrast to traditional Raman lasers, the Raman laser reported here is made from pure silicon and can be directly modulated to transmit data. Room temperature operation with 2.5W peak laser output power is demonstrated.

Silicon Raman laser, amplifier, and wavelength converter

Silicon is the “bread and butter” of the electronics industry. Its combination of technological sophistication and economics of scale of is unparalled in the history of the industrial age. Ideally, photonic devices should also be manufactured in silicon. However, with the exception of one or two devices that are in low-volume production [1] the silicon photonics industry is virtually non existe...

Demonstration of a silicon Raman laser.

We report the demonstration of the first silicon Raman laser. Experimentally, pulsed Raman laser emission at 1675 nm with 25 MHz repetition rate is demonstrated using a silicon waveguide as the gain medium. The laser has a clear threshold at 9 W peak pump pulse power and a slope efficiency of 8.5%.

Stability of a monolithic integrated filtered-feedback laser.

We experimentally and theoretically investigate the stability of a single-mode integrated filtered-feedback laser as a function of the electrically controlled feedback phase. We interpret the measurements in terms of feedback-induced dynamics, compare them with the results from a stability analysis model for conventional feedback, and find good qualitative agreement.
